Scania Malaysia’s “No-Single-Use-Plastic Programme”
Scania Malaysia distributed reusable lunch boxes and water bottles to the students, teachers and staff of Sekolah Kebangsaan Dato’ Keramat today at the launch of No-Single-Use-Plastic Campaign funded by “Master Sustainability by Scania.”
“Reducing the usage of single use plastic is important as we have seen the adverse effects these plastics have on our ecosystem. Therefore, we are very pleased to support Sekolah Kebangsaan Dato’ Keramat’s campaign especially echoing the Penang state government’s move to ban single use plastic in the state,” said Scania Southeast Asia’s Managing Director Marie Sjödin Enström.
The “Master Sustainability by Scania” fund was launched last year to motivate and assist local primary schools to start up curricular and extra-curricular activities or projects that focus on sustainability. Sekolah Kebangsaan Dato’ Keramat is the second recipient of the Fund after Sekolah Kebangsaan Perdana Jaya, Subang Jaya received funds for its urban farming and environmental awareness project launched in November last year.
“Doing the right things and doing things right have always been two key aspects for Scania. Sustainability has always been at the heart of Scania’s operations and it is our responsibility to nurture the young generation so they can grow to become future sustainability leaders,” added Marie.
Sekolah Kebangsaan Dato’ Keramat’s Headmaster, Mohd Kamal Mohd Nor was glad that Scania Malaysia agreed to support the school’s “no-single-use-plastic” initiative. “It might seem like a small action but the impact if followed through consistently will be big and will shape the right mind set and behaviour starting at an early age. We believe that with the availability of the reusable lunch boxes and water bottles, the students can reduce the use of single use plastic whilst living a more sustainable lifestyle,” commented Mohd Kamal.
Parents too can play an important role in ensuring that the use of these lunch boxes are optimised by filling them up with prepared home meals or snacks.
The “Master Sustainability By Scania” Fund by Scania Malaysia is sustained by a portion of the company’s vehicle sales revenue. Schools are invited to submit their sustainability project and / or activity ideas by emailing Scania Malaysia at smyenquries@scania.com.
