Mercedes-Benz Malaysia's Santa Claus brings joy to children
How many children can say that they met a real Santa Claus? Thanks to Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, 51 children from Pusat Jagaan Angels, Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) and Agathians Shelter can now lay claim to that privilege.
This year, the Mercedes-Benz Malaysia annual ‘Christmas In A Shoebox’ children’s party was led by President and CEO, Dr Claus Weidner, and hosted at Balai Bomba dan Penyelamat Damansara in SS2, Petaling Jaya. Dressed for the occasion in the signature bright red outfit, ‘Santa’ Claus, with his band of merrymakers (also known as staff of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia) and the Damansara firefighters, awed the children with entertainment and lessons on life skills.
The children participated in activities aimed at promoting safety such as the do’s and don’ts of fire safety, including learning how to put out fires. Much to the delight of the children, aged three to 19 years, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia staff also donned firefighting gear to look the part. The children were also thrilled with riding in the Mercedes-Benz Atego fire trucks and treated to an exciting display of firefighters in action.
“Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has a long-standing association with the community. This year, as part of the year end festive season, we are delighted to host the Pusat Penjagaan Angels, Women’s Aid Organisation and Agathians Shelter, and give the children a chance to learn about their local fire station. Children are a privilege, so my team and I are grateful for the opportunity to share some joy and spend time them. This is certainly one of the highlights of my year. The smiles and laughter of the children are truly priceless,” said Dr Weidner.
As part of the ‘Christmas In A Shoebox’ programme, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia staff adopt a child, and bring them personally-selected gifts. Currently in its seventh year, the programme has reached over 250 children from over 20 homes. Committed to making the world a better place for the next generation, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia regularly engages in community-based activities that benefit children.
