Tawau’s new bus terminal for long distance express bus services started operations on the 3rd of April 2018. Construction of the terminal started on 4th January 2016 and completed on 4th December 2017.

The 5.5 acre Sri Indah bus terminal can accommodate 25 to 50 express buses at one time and eight express bus operators with a total of 59 buses have agreed to transfer from the previous Sabindo Square bus terminal. The new terminal is equipped with infrastructure like toilets, cargo counters, information and ticketing counters, cafeteria and a praying room as well as 42 public parking lots, 11 cab parking lots, and 20 hawker kiosks amongst others.

The spanking new bus terminal is the first of its kind in Sabah to use a fully online centralised ticketing system. The cooperation with easybook.com is expected to tackle black market ticket sales.

The Sri Indah bus terminal was a joint-venture project between the private sector and the government whereby the site was provided by Hap Seng Sdn Bhd while the funding was channelled by the federal government. The management is handled by the Tawau Municipal Council.
