GETS Global to Develop Electric Public Bus System in Putrajaya
A Bumiputera logistics company, GETS Global Berhad is committed to developing the electric public bus system in Putrajaya which is expected to commence operations in the second quarter of the year, Utusan Malaysia reported.
The bus will also reduce pollution due to the release of vehicle carbon, noise and congestion which is currently among the major problems in Putrajaya, in line with the rapid development of the city.
GETS Global through its wholly-owned company, Konsorsium Bas Ekspres Semenanjung (M) Sdn. Bhd. (KBESM) last December signed a public acquisition of Pengangkutan Awam Putrajaya Travel & Tours Sdn. Bhd. (PAPTT).
According to GETS Global Managing Director, Datuk Che Azizuddin Che Ismail, under the agreement, it will provide a more comprehensive electric bus service to about 100,000 Putrajaya residents by 2025.
As a start he said the company would provide five electric buses with an estimated cost of RM1.5 million each by the second quarter of this year.
He added that the company plans to introduce three types of buses, mini, midi and long lines to meet the needs of commuters in Putrajaya and surrounding areas.
"We will introduce three routes; blue to all offices, green for tourist destinations and yellow for residential areas. We are in the process of making Putrajaya a green and smart city," he said.
GETS Global was formerly known as Konsortium Bas Ekspres (KBES) Berhad with over 30 years of experience in logistics.
Che Azizuddin said the provision of efficient public transport services especially in Putrajaya would help the people's economy, especially young people as well as those who just started working and building their lives.
According to him, most young people are forced to buy vehicles once they get jobs because of the problem of inefficiency of the existing public transport system.
"Compared to developed countries, there are efficient public transportation systems. People do not have to spend their money to buy their own vehicles. Instead, they can save to buy their own homes.
"We need to help the people. The government's efforts bringing in the Light Rail Transit (LRT), Mass Rail Transit (MRT) and other public transportations are very good for future generations," he said.
Che Azizuddin added that the company will also transfer the company's operations to Seremban as well as to co-operate with a commercial vehicle battery manufacturer from China in order to provide the best service to customers.
"This step is also in line with GETS Global's desire to focus on the electric bus business segment to generate revenue in the future," he said.
