The My100 unlimited travel pass allows users to utilise all services from Prasarana including MRT, LRT, monorail, BRT Sunway, RapidKL buses and MRT feeder buses for the price of RM100 monthly. Speaking at a press conference in Bangsar, Transport Minister Anthony Loke is extremely happy with the subscription rate of the travel pass since it was launched on the 1st of December 2018.
Based on studies carried out, Loke reports that since the implementation of the monthly pass, 63% of users saw savings of RM100 and below, 27% saved between RM 100 to RM200 while 8% saw savings of more than RM200. “The public reacted positively to the introduction of the monthly pass as soon as they realized they could save more money using the pass. As transport is the third most crucial factor that contributes to the cost of living, the My100 travel pass is a welcomed alternative for most people,” shared Loke.
The minister also said that the only negative response he has received from users is the fact that users will have to use their MyKad in order to subscribe to the travel pass. Users fear that they would lose their national identity card if they were to constantly utilise it. In response to that, the ministry is discussing more dynamic payment systems such as debit or credit cards, payment through mobile apps and touch n go to enhance user experience as well as to allow tourists to purchase the travel passes when they visit Malaysia.
“There has been an increase by the thousands in the first seven days of the year and I take this as a very good sign. There were 34 472 subscribers for the month of December and 30 635 subscribers for the first week of this month. Looking at the numbers, I am confident that Prasarana will achieve its target of 200 000 subscribers monthly, which would result in a reduction in the government subsidy threshold for the programme,” Loke concluded.
