Held at the Matrade Exhibition & Convention Centre (MECC) from 5 - 7 September, the exhibition featured more than 35 local and international companies from the automotive manufacturing establishments and service providers. The exhibition also marked the Lafarge Drivers Safety Day and was aimed at advocating awareness on the importance of road and driver safety specifically in the logistics and haulage industry.

Volvo Trucks opened the weekend-long exhibition with a training session on Driver Development that was held for the participants at the exhibition, especially tailored for truck drivers and owners of logistics companies.

“Safety is part of our heritage and one of the most important core values at Volvo. With the presence and participation from influential players in Malaysia’s automotive industry, this exhibition is a great platform for us to address the need for driver development especially with the growing concerns of road safety issues today,” said Mats Nilsson, Managing Director of Volvo Trucks Malaysia.

Speaking at the training session, Volvo’s driver trainer, Mr Ahmad Rosdi Bin Hj Muhammad Ishak, shared with the audience on Volvo’s Driver Development Programme (DDP) as well as relevant topics which included truck optimization, road safety and defensive driving.

The exhibition also saw a signing of MOU between the Swedish giant and the largest local cement hauler Syarikat Jasa Selamat Sdn Bhd for the company’s order of 30 units of FMX 440 Trucks.

Yew Choo Kein, Managing Director of Jasa Selamat Sdn Bhd, one of the largest cement haulers in the northern region said “Being in the business of moving cement, durability of our prime movers is the most important thing and this encompass truck technology, the power to pull heavy loads, a good engine and fuel economy. We made our first purchase of Volvo truck about nine years ago and today, we have close to 100 units of Volvo trucks of various models and ages. Our purchase of 30 additional Volvo trucks just goes to show how serious we are in expanding our business and the trust we have in Volvo.”

Starting out as a transport company in 1975 with one truck and one driver moving groceries and small items, Jasa Selamat is now one of the biggest cement haulers in the northern region with 150 trucks of various brands and models.

“Syarikat Jasa Selamat Sdn Bhd has been long-time and loyal customers of Volvo Trucks. We are proud to have been able to provide them with efficient transportation solutions as well as a comprehensive and well-developed network for maintenance and repairs to help them grow their business.  We are pleased to once again deliver new truck fleet to Jasa Selamat as they seek to further expand in the local market,” said Ms Suzanne Ooi, Vice President of Marketing, Volvo Trucks Malaysia at the evening signing event.
