The very heart of these developments is how the concept of sustainability can be realised in the transportation sector. Malaysia’s aims of becoming a high-income nation by 2020 and in the process also reducing its carbon intensity of its economy by 40 percent are deeply interlinked, amongst others with its ability to develop a sustainable, affordable and efficient  transportation system, namely within its major cities and between cities. These are interesting times for Malaysia.

In the meantime, Germany and the UK have both developed innovative and far-reaching policies to support sustainable mobility. Energy-efficient technical solutions from car manufacturers and suppliers, integrated transportation concepts and renewable energy solutions have made individual and public transport more efficient. At the same time, carbon emissions have been reduced substantially.

Against this background the jointly organised one-day conference shall support the networking and sharing of ideas and thoughts between Malaysian, German and British stakeholders and experts and enhance the focus on all forms of energy-efficient transport and potential sustainability solutions, that are aimed to help Malaysia achieve their goal of implementing greener/low carbon modes of mobility. Policies and best practice examples from Malaysia, Germany and the UK will be presented and innovative solutions to the common challenges will be discussed at the conference.
