The Malaysian state of Malacca will be launching a free bus service starting from the 20th of August. The launch will be taking place at the Melaka Sentral. The free bus service would ply the Melaka Sentral – Hospital, Melaka – Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) and the Melaka Sentral – Melaka Transit Market routes in the historical city.

State Public Works, Transport and Public Amenities Committee Chairman Mohd Sofi Abd Wahab commented that the free bus service was an initiative promised by the new state government to improve the well-being of the people of Malacca, especially those in the rural communities as well as to encourage the use of public transport.

Three of the buses plying the routes would be using natural gas for vehicles (NGV) in line with the state’s objectives of implementing green technology. The buses would be operating from 8am till 6pm once launched. Chief Minister Adly Zahari is expected to be the guest of honour at the launching ceremony of the free bus service.
